Anuradhapura Sri Lanka

Hand-colored sepia photograph

Temples and Ancient Sites have always been to me,
an evidence of Eternal Mystery reflecting the ingenuity
and depth of knowledge present in the Ancestors…
Through out the years, I have been privileged to photograph and travel to Sri Lanka and visit temples and shrines of Buddhisim, and the Hindu faith.
Wherever I have been, the Land, the Ancient Places, and the Living Traditional Cultures hold mystery and meaning and are a priceless treasure.

Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka

Hand-colored sepia-toned photograph

This mysterious stepped pyramid temple is known as Satmahal Prasada, found in the quadrangle at Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka

The ancient city of Polonnaruwa, deep in the central plains of Sri Lanka, was the playground of kings and the capital of the country. The city peaked during the reign of King Parakramabahu (1153-1186) who unified Sri Lanka and oversaw the expansion of Polonnaruwa. He built magnificent temples, palaces and pools as well as a comprehensive irrigation system that is still in use today.

Taos, New Mexico

Sepia-toned photograph

This image is part of a project called “The Life and Adventures of Emma Russell Photographer of the Old West.”
I just had bought a beautiful old 4 by 5 Graflex camera from Manuel Bravo's assistant. It used to be his (Manuel Bravo was Mexico's foremost photographer, the equivalent to Edward Weston.

As I held it in my hands I began thinking of what project I could do with this old-timey classic camera that gave me a nice four by five negative.

I thought what if I was a photographer living in the Southwest in the 1880s? The more I thought about the idea, the more I liked it. Thus, “the Life and Times of Emma Russell photographer of the West was born,” an historical photographic novel.

This is Crow artist Cyrus Gros Ventre and French expressionist painter Jean Claude Gable
