Taos Pueblo, New Mexico Color photograph The beautiful National Heritage site, Taos Pueblo, New Mexico, adobe apartments close to 800 years old, the upper stories were reached by ladders on the outside, in case of attacks, the ladders were pulled up, the adversaries could not enter the homes. Taos Pueblo is still occupied by many families using their traditional homes for shops and ceremonial events. The main structures are on the North side and the South side. With the Rio Pueblo River coming from their sacred mountain dividing the two. The South side, is where the Summer People live, the North Side, the Winter people.

Taos Pueblo, New Mexico Color photograph A Taos Elder, enjoying the sunset. His home is in the Historical Taos Pueblo. The apartment style homes are made of adobe and have stood for hundreds of years. People have commented how similar the “wrap” is, to traditions in the middle East, both coming from centuries of knowing how to keep cool in the sun’s heat.

Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park Color photograph Known by the Navajo as Tse’Bii’Ndzisgaii, straddling the Arizona-Utah state line. Natural forces of wind and water that eroded the land spent the last 50 million years cutting into and peeling away at the surface of the plateau. The simple wearing down of altering layers of soft and hard rock slowly revealed the natural wonders of Monument Valley today. The valley’s vivid red color comes from iron oxide exposed in the weathered siltstone. The buttes are clearly stratified, with three principal layers.
