Taos, New Mexico Sepia-toned photograph This image is part of a project called “The Life and Adventures of Emma Russell Photographer of the Old West.” I just had bought a beautiful old 4 by 5 Graflex camera from Manuel Bravo's assistant. It used to be his (Manuel Bravo was Mexico's foremost photographer, the equivalent to Edward Weston. As I held it in my hands I began thinking of what project I could do with this old-timey classic camera that gave me a nice four by five negative. I thought what if I was a photographer living in the Southwest in the 1880s? The more I thought about the idea, the more I liked it. Thus, “the Life and Times of Emma Russell photographer of the West was born,” an historical photographic novel. This is Crow artist Cyrus Gros Ventre and French expressionist painter Jean Claude Gable

Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs, New Mexico This is a vintage hand colored photograph of the Old Lunch Counter at the Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs. Back before it was sold, upgraded/renovated and became hotsy-totsie... The Springs have been a place of healing way before the Hispanics and Anglos arrived in “The Land of Enchantment.” Word has it, that back in the day, Georgia O’Keefe would come to the Healing Waters..and sit at the lunch counter for a bite after her soak.
